DR CATHERINE FITZGERALD, BVSc
Vet / Practice Manager
Catherine graduated from the University of Queensland in 2002 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons 1). After 3 years in mixed practice in Gippsland, she moved to the UK’s Peak District where the freezing winters soon led her indoors to small animal practice! She lived in the UK for 6 1/2 years, gaining diverse experience from large veterinary hospitals to one-man clinics in both rural England and London. While all aspects of veterinary work interest her, Catherine has come to especially enjoy the challenges of dermatology cases and also the medical problems of our canine and feline friends, completing additional study in both these fields in recent years.
In her spare time Catherine enjoys hiking, swimming, cycling, playing music – especially as a member of Brisbane Symphonic concert Band. When she occasionally sits still, her chocolate Burmese cat, Benny enjoys some quality time! Catherine is glad to be back in sunny Brisbane and enjoys being part of the Rochedale Vet team.
DR ANNALIESE JOHNSON, BVSc
Annaliese graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (hons) in 2012. She then spent time in remote and rural practice in WA and QLD before returning to Brisbane in 2016. After some time working for an animal welfare charity she joined Rochedale Vet Surgery in January 2018. Annaliese enjoys all the ever varying aspects of small animal work, especially soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.
Annaliese has a strong interest in animal welfare and has done volunteer work with charities both in Australia and the Pacific Islands, providing veterinary services that are otherwise unavailable.
When not at work Annaliese likes to spend her time outside – kayaking, bush walking or just taking her dog, Marbles (whom she acquired as a vet student) for long walks by the Brisbane River.
DR ANNE STEWART, BVSc
Anne graduated from the University of Queensland in 1986. After working for a couple of years in Brisbane, she went overseas for a working holiday in the UK and Africa. Since then she has worked in small animal practices around Brisbane. Her main areas of interest are medicine and dermatology. She has 2 children – her son has finished school and is training to be a pilot and her daughter in her last year of highschool. Outside work her interests include walking, skiing, pilates and reading.
DR TRUDY HINDS, BVSc
Dr Trudy Hinds graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons I) from the University of Queensland in 1996. She joined Dr Gordon at Rochedale Vet Surgery in 1998 and enjoyed many great years with the great team at Rochedale Vet until 2006 when an opportunity for practice ownership changed her direction. Seven short years later, another change of direction in the form of one gorgeous son followed by another saw her enjoying a completely different career as a Mum instead.
Dr Trudy started working back with us mid-2015 doing every second Saturday morning and has really enjoyed seeing so many familiar clients’ faces, and yes, even after almost ten years away, some familiar pets as well! She now works every full day Saturday and every second Sunday and may be seen filling in during the week too as needed.
There is almost no aspect of veterinary practice that Dr Trudy does not enjoy or has not done some further studies in – dentistry, reproduction, paediatrics, dermatology, radiography, feline and canine internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, behaviour, practice management and pocket pet care – she loves it all! Dr Trudy has shared her home with pet budgies, guinea pigs, rats, very special dogs and a very special cat over the years. Dr Trudys’ husband who has been with her since first year Uni, shares her with her tropical fish and pet chickens but there are bound to be more new additions as the boys get older!
Jenny is one of our longest standing Staff members, having started with the surgery in 1995. Back then the clinic had only two nurses and two vets, but was a busy small practice. Over the years, as the practice has grown, Jenny has taken on a senior role to help train new staff and assist the Practice Manager with a host of administration duties.
Having seen a lot of clients’ pets from kitten/puppy hood through to their senior years, Jenny has developed a close relationship with many of our clients. She has a strong commitment to client education, and helping clients understand their role as carers so they can make the best decisions to give their pets the best possible life. In her spare time Jenny is a keen gardener and bushwalker.
Bec joined us in 2012 as a trainee nurse while undertaking her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing through TAFE as she has always wanted to work with animals. She graduated at the end of 2012 and became a permanent member of our team and enjoys caring for our wonderful patients and their devoted owners here at Rochedale. Bec has a keen interest in surgical and medical nursing, and in animal behaviour. You’ll often see her running our Puppy Pre-School classes!
When Bec has spare time she likes to spend it with her adopted cat Freddy and her family pets (2 dogs, 3 cats, a cockatiel and chickens!). She also enjoys camping, travelling, reading, and the odd game of squash.
Susan has been nursing for over 10 years, completing her Cert IV in Vet Nursing in 2012. She took a short break from nursing only to find that she missed the client interaction and the animals too much. She loves every aspect of nursing and is particularly interested in medical nursing. Susan also has a passion for animal behaviour and nutrition, and will often be the one trying to find a polite way of saying your pet is overweight and would benefit with some weight loss to increase their quality of life.
Susan shares her home with her husband Ben and their two little girls Charlotte and Georgia, and their two weimaraners “Fergie” and “Lacey”. When not at work or chasing her toddlers Susan loves to read, go to the gym, and walk the dogs.
For the past 13 years Bianca has been working in the Medical Research field as an Animal Technician / Research Assistant looking into various forms of Cancer in humans. Animal Ethics has always been a high priority to her during this time. For this reason she endeavoured to make sure the welfare and quality of care of the rats and mice used in the studies were at the highest standard. Bianca made a career change and is now working as a Veterinary nurse at our clinic. She is hoping her past experiences will complement her new skills while helping our larger furry friends.
When not working Bianca enjoys yoga and spending time with staffy cross ‘Bronson’. She tries to escape to the beach at every opportunity to swim, snorkel and surf.
Jessica joined our clinic in 2017 as a work placement student while studying the certificate IV in veterinary nursing at TAFE.
